The event of Saturday 15th of May, 2021, undertaken by the Minister of State for Health, Senator Olorunimbe Mamora, has further taken positive effects on aspirants of the All Progressives Congress in the LG and LCDAs of Kosofe.

In Agboyi-Ketu, aspirants forfeit their ambitions to support the incumbent Chairman, Mayor Dele Oshinowo, to clinch the party’s ticket. In Ikosi-Isheri, long time aspirant and dedicated party grassrooter, Hon. Babatunde Adeyemi, also took the challenge, he dumped his ambition to support the aspiration of erstwhile Ikosi-Isheri LCDA party Chairman, Loogun Oyekunle Jegede.

When contacted, Adeyemi noted that his decision was in-line with the plea of Kosofe Apex leader, and Minister of State for Health, Senator Olorunnimbe Mamora, whose campaign towards the May 29 APC Primaries was the adoption of consensus candidates. In his words “Our leaders want us to adopt a consensus candidate ahead of the primaries, when you look at it, I am the most qualified, but our LGA chairman, Loogun Jegede, is also an exco at the State level. I think it is best to give him my support and work according to the party’s plan of adopting a consensus candidate.”

At the stakeholders and aspirants interactive session with Senator Mamora, the minister noted that he doesn’t have any interest, and his only interest is good governance. He further stated that his reasons for the recent campaign is for aspirants to eschew violence and avoid playing politics of calumny, in order not to create enmity within the party.

In Kosofe, which has not less than 9 aspirants jostling for the party’s ticket, no report of any aspirant stepping down for fellow aspirants to emerge the candidate of the party, as at the time of this report.

Our view is that political leaders, as well as public office holders should get the blame for the outrageous number of aspirants who contest the party’s ticket in Kosofe and Ikosi-Isheri. Most of these aspirants have waited for too long to benefit from their party despite investing time and resources into the successes, projects and achievements of the party without a reward, for too long. Most of these people should have been compensated with appointments or engaged into public office positions, this been done, being chairman of the local government would be the last thing on their mind.

With the Saturday 15th of May engagement, Senator Mamora should also implore public office holders to engage steadfast and committed politicians who have been faithful and resilient over the years. This will aid a rancour and violent free primary.
