The Dream Project for Africa (DPA) have expressed support for a recent bill proposed by Senator Ovie Omo-Agege from Delta Central sponsored to end acts of harassment in Nigerian colleges.
At the stage of proposing the law, Senator Omo-Agege said that the nation’s institutions of higher learning must be sanitised to rid them of lecturers who saw female students as prize. He added that when the bill is passed and signed into law, any lecturer found guilty will be liable to a jail term of up to five years but not less than two years with no option of fine.
The groups however called for the implementation of palliative measures to cushion the effect of the policy on the masses.
In line with this, the CEO, DPA, Mr Nelson Oluwabukola Michael urge students, parents, businesses, educators, advocacy groups and other stakeholders in Nigeria and the international community to support the Sexual Harassment in Tertiary Educational Institutions Prohibition bill by Senator Ovie Omo-Agege (Delta Central Senatorial District).
In his words; “the bill has over 1000 benefits for the Nigerian masses. The #AgegeBill will ensure that our academic institutions inject the best minds into the police force, churches, politics, customs, military,business and foreign affairs.
This is where the CHANGE we have always expected comes into the picture. We implore the Nigerian public and the international community to put all their support behind the bill”, Nelson said.
