As part of his efforts to develop the educational sector, in Agboyi-Ketu LCDA, the Executive Chairman, Mayor Dele Oshinowo, has distributed about 250 free General Certificate of Education (GCE) examination forms to indigent students within the Local Council Development Area. The management of Agboyi-Ketu LCDA claimed that the GCE forms did not come cheap, as such, students went under scrutiny to emerge beneficiaries of the gesture, by the Executive Chairman.


Speaking on the gesture and criteria of selection, Oshinowo, as represented by the Vice-Chairman, Mrs Folake Kayode said that it was borne out of the passion to assist the less privileged students and self-training individuals who could not afford the GCE forms.

She said, “We did a thorough screening, before the forms were given out. It is not for the rich, at all and it is basically for indigents. We advise the students to study very hard, in order to come out in flying colours.”

The Head of Department, Ministry of Education of Agboyi-Ketu LCDA, Comrade Wale Olorode said the vote of thanks, while also advising students to cultivate reading habits, in order to achieve the enshrined objectives of the free distributed  GCE forms. Olorode, in a chat with newsmen, noted that the council has invested fortunes into the education of residents and it is expected of the students to successfully secure good grades, in the upcoming examinations, putting into consideration that the gesture was to cushion the effects fuel subsidy removal. This, he said, would upgrade the educational standards of the LCDA.

 


A beneficiary, Moses Akpan, thanked the Executive Chairman, for giving him the opportunity, despite the economic setback in the country. He further promised to take full advantage of the examination as a stepping stone into the future.

Another beneficiary, Tolani Oladipupo, appreciated the opportunity given to her by the Chairman, she expressed how much it means to her and her family, in the current trying times of the nation.
