The Karlsruhe Sustainable Finance Awards are the prestigious awards of the European Organisation for Sustainable Development (EOSD) in conjunction with the Government of Karlsruhe (the official “Most Sustainable City” in Germany). The awards, which can be referred to as the Oscars of Sustainability, honours financial institutions and organizations with significant contributions to the field of sustainable finance.

The awards aim to provide recognition to financial institutions that have successfully embedded economic, social and environmental Sustainability into their business, honour organizations that have made outstanding contributions in the field of Sustainable Finance,
stimulate the interests of financial institutions and other stakeholders in integrating Sustainability in their core business strategy and promote the growth of Sustainable financial instruments and markets worldwide, particularly in the fields of green finance and investments; financial inclusion and social finance; green equity and venture capital; and holistic integration of Sustainability in the financial services institutions. 

Access Bank Plc has emerged the overall winner of the prestigious “Outstanding Business Sustainability Achievement Award 2016”. This award recognizes outstanding success in incorporating economic, social and environmental aspects in the corporate strategy and business processes. Winners in this category must have holistically embedded Sustainability across the financial institutions. The prestigious awards was presented to the Bank by the Government of Karlsruhe in conjunction with the EOSD, as part of the programme of the 2016 Global Sustainable Finance Conference (GSFC) 2016 which held from the 14th – 17th July, 2016 in Karlsruhe, Germany. 
This makes Access Bank Plc the first African bank to win this global award. It is a confirmation of the Bank’s leaders.
