The Agboyi-Ketu LCDA is currently undertaking an extensive desilting operation across the locality to mitigate the risk of flooding in preparation for the upcoming monsoon season. The Supervisor for Environment, Comrade Toheeb Durosimi, provided insight into the ongoing efforts to clear chocked drains and ensure a smooth flow of water.

Focused Areas of Desilting: The Department of Environment has identified several critical areas for immediate desilting action. Among these locations are Davies Street, Ajelogo, Irawo Road, Owode-Ajegunle, Thomas Laniyan Road, Owode-Ajegunle, Adedoyin Street, Kosofe, and Orisigun Street, Kosofe. These efforts aim to alleviate potential flooding issues in these areas.

Commitment to Long-Term Flood Prevention: Comrade Toheeb Durosimi emphasized that desilting alone is not sufficient to prevent flooding comprehensively. Under the leadership of Mayor Dele Oshinowo, the LCDA is committed to implementing additional measures to ensure zero flood occurrences in Agboyi-Ketu throughout 2024.

Upcoming Measures Include:

  • Continuous sensitization campaigns for residents
  • Desilting of all canals in the LCDA using a swamp buggy
  • Aggressive measures to curb illegal dumping of waste into drains

Durosimi urged residents to play an active role in maintaining a clean and green environment. He stressed the importance of collective responsibility in sustaining the ongoing efforts and achieving the goal of a flood-free Agboyi-Ketu.

Looking Ahead: The LCDA aims to keep residents informed about the desilting progress and future initiatives. A detailed schedule for desilting on each street is available, encouraging residents to cooperate with the outlined plan.

Residents are also encouraged to report any blocked drains or instances of illegal waste disposal. The LCDA’s Department of Environment is ready to respond promptly to such reports.

Community Engagement and Feedback: To foster community engagement, the LCDA invites residents to share their experiences and suggestions regarding the desilting process. A designated email address and social media hashtag have been established for easy communication.

The LCDA remains committed to transparency and continuous improvement, seeking feedback from the community to enhance the effectiveness of the ongoing desilting operations.
