Controversy has continued to trail federal government’s distribution of palliative items worth N200 million and N100 million to senators and members of the House of Representatives respectively.

In a compelling appeal to the National Assembly, NNPP House of Representatives candidate, Comrade Abdulwaheed Odunuga from Kosofe Federal Constituency, has submitted a petition questioning the transparency and accountability surrounding the distribution of federal government palliatives. The petition is specifically addressed to Hon. Kafilat Ogbara and Senator Adetokunbo Abiru.

Expressing his worries, Mr. Odunuga highlights recent media campaigns drawing attention to the distribution of palliatives, with a particular focus on President Bola Tinubu’s Palliative by PBATMediaCentre. The substantial allocation of funds—N100 million worth of palliatives to House of Representatives Members and N200 million worth of palliatives to each Senator—has prompted the citizen to seek clarification on the distribution process.

The key points raised in the petition include:

  1. A detailed breakdown of the criteria used to identify beneficiaries eligible for the palliatives by House of Representatives Member and Senator.
  2. A comprehensive list of recipients, specifying the amount of palliatives allocated by each Member of the House of Representatives and Senator.
  3. Information on the method of distribution or delivery of the palliatives to ensure timely and accountable delivery to the intended beneficiaries.
  4. Steps taken to ensure that the allocation and distribution process is transparent, fair, and free from any form of favoritism.

Mr. Odunuga emphasizes the citizens’ right to be informed about how government palliatives are being distributed and underscores the importance of transparency in such initiatives for fostering public trust, particularly during challenging times.

The concerned citizen, who is actively engaged in the Kosofe Federal Constituency, urges the addressed National Assembly members to treat this matter with the urgency and seriousness it deserves. He believes that their prompt response to this petition will contribute significantly to building a more transparent and accountable government.

The citizens eagerly await the response from Hon. Kafilat Ogbara and Senator Adetokunbo Abiru as this petition brings attention to the need for accountability in the distribution of vital relief resources.
