As part of concerted effort by government at all levels to cushion the current effect of the nation’s poor economy, the Sole Administrator of Ikosi-Isheri Local Council Development Area, Aremo Abdul Adewale has presented certificates of empowerment to 206 beneficiaries of the council’s free skill acquisition programme.
The Sole Administrator, while delivering his address during the graduation ceremony for the beneficiaries, at the council secretariat, on Wednesday stated that the empowerment initiative is in fulfilment of the campaign promises of the All Progressive Congress (APC) to Nigerians.
Aremo Adewale added that the empowerment could not have come up at any other time than during this period of economic recession in Nigeria.
He told the beneficiaries that the programme was created by his administration as a way of eradicating poverty in the council area.
The Sole Administrator added that, with the successful completion of training by the beneficiaries in seven different vocations, they have transited from job seekers to job providers.
Aremo Adewale further disclosed that the council has gone an extra mile to assist the beneficiaries to benefit financially from the training, by registering them on a business service provider website, where people from all parts of the world can contact them for their services.
The beneficiaries of the programme, according to the Sole Administrator, spent two weeks to acquire knowledge in seven vocations namely, soap and disinfectant production, paint production, Adire production, Fabric design, Makeup and Gele, Gift items production and Notebook production.
The Sole Administration commended the contribution of Necessary Measure Against Poverty (NEMAP) to the success of the programme, the organisation that provided the instructors who trained the beneficiaries.
Earlier in her address, the representative of the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment, Lagos State, Mrs Iyabo Seriki-Bello, the director of Employment, in the ministry commended the Sole Administrator and the council for the initiative and assured that the State government would continue to work towards eradicating poverty among Lagosians.
The high point of the ceremony was the presentation of certificates to the beneficiaries that included a traditional chief in the council area, Chief Jimoh Atanda Olukosi who majored in paint production.
The ceremony was attended by community leaders, APC chieftains in the council area and relatives of the beneficiaries.
