Nigeria experiences deadly flooding every year, often as a result of ignored environmental guidelines and inadequate disposal of domestic waste into drainages. This have however clogged the drainages and hindered the free flow of water, causing floods when it rains heavily.

The Executive Chairman of Kosofe Local Government, Barrister Moyosore Ogunlewe, has launched a Drainage Desilting Campaign, an operation geared towards making Kosofe flood free, clean and safe for residents.

Barrister Ogunlewe recalled clearing up some of the drainages in the past, regrettably, the waste reappeared after the rains. He stated that to curb flooding issues, effective drainage decongestion was necessary, lamenting the fact that some vendors sell on the streets and willfully dump their waste in the gutters, thereby clogging the drainages.

Ogunlewe’s drainage declogging campaign commenced from Adebayo Mokuolu Street, Anthony, Faramobi Ajike Street, Anthony and Bush Street, Mende, Maryland, yet, he however promised to see it across the length and breadth of the local government.
