The students of Kosofe Senior College showcased their entrepreneurial brilliance on the continental stage at the Junior Achievement Africa Company of the Year (COY) competition held in Kigali, Rwanda. The team, known as ‘The Sustainable Future Advocate Company,’ not only represented Kosofe and Nigeria with distinction but also brought home two prestigious awards for their innovative project.
The talented team, consisting of Fauzyhat Bello, Moses Ilori, Modinat Kareem, and Chinenye Nworie, created plantain peel briquettes and wowed the audience with their entrepreneurial excellence. The community is delighted to announce that the students clinched the Public Choice Award, a result of votes from supportive Nigerians and Africans, along with the Delta Air Lines’ Social Impact Award.
This remarkable achievement not only speaks to the dedication and creativity of our students but also highlights the positive impact of programs by Junior Achievement Nigeria in nurturing the entrepreneurial minds of our young talents.
The Junior Achievement Africa COY Competition featured participants from various countries, showcasing the diverse talents and innovative ideas of young entrepreneurs across the continent. Our students stood tall among competitors from Côte d’Ivoire, Eswatini, Ghana, Mauritius, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and the host country, Rwanda.
Mr. Olaolu Akogun, the Acting Executive Director of Junior Achievement Nigeria, attributed the success of the students to the incredible support from partners. He emphasized that the awards are not just a testament to the achievements of Team Nigeria but signify the collective efforts of the JA Nigeria community, supporters, and partners dedicated to empowering and developing young entrepreneurs.
In expressing gratitude, Mr. Akogun specifically acknowledged First Bank Nigeria Limited for their sponsorship of the National Company of the Year Program and for covering the travel expenses for our Nigerian representatives. This support played a crucial role in enabling our students to shine on the continental stage.
