In a commanding performance at Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne, Nigeria’s U17 women’s team, the Flamingoes, thrashed the Algeria’s female team 4-0 in the first leg of the 2025 U17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers, putting one foot in the Morocco 2025 tournament.
The Flamingoes dominated with a clean sheet and relentless attack, setting the stage for the decisive second leg in Algiers next weekend.
Goals were scored by Queen Joseph who saw the ball to the back of the net in the 3rd and 16th minutes respectively. Zainab Oluwaseun extended the lead at the 13th minute, while Aishat Animashaun put her name on the scoreline at the 90th minute.
Hon. Kunle Soname, Nigeria’s leading sports philanthropist and Remo Stars Chairman, donated ₦4 million (₦1 million per goal), urging the team to secure the World Cup ticket in Algeria. The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) added ₦2 million (₦500,000 per goal), bringing the total reward to ₦6 million for the squad.
With momentum high, the Flamingoes are poised to seal their qualification next weekend in Algeria.
