It was match day 12, on a Sunday evening, in the Ikenne, home stadium of the Sky blue boys, the Remo Stars FC.

To the surprise of fans and supporters, the match officials refused to return to the field from the dressing room, to continue the 2nd half of the game.

Fans alleged that the action of the officials might be due to the Red card issued against Remo Stars, in the 43rd minute, by the referee. This, the fans believed was an error on the part of the referee, though, they were optimistic of a comeback in the second half of the match.

Some sources revealed that it’s the habit of NPFL referees to take advantage of clubs, especially, in situations when they goofed, “it is their tradition to portray an entire different scenario to the Interim Management Committee (IMC), except they’re tipped (bribed) not to give a negative report. It is public knowledge that it is whatever the referee writes as a report that is believed to have transpired“, a supporter told Kosofe Inside-Out’s reporter.

However, the Chairman of the Referees Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation, Faith Irabor has hinted that the Interim Management Committee of the Nigeria Professional Football League will look further into the incident which forced the match-day 12 encounter between Remo Stars and Gombe United in Ikenne to be put to a halt on Sunday evening.

In an official statement that followed from the league organisers, which was signed by the Head of Competition Department, Sunday Obaseki, both clubs were ordered to complete the game behind closed-doors on Monday.

Following the allegations of threats to the match which might not be unconnected to why the game was concluded behind closed doors, Remo Stars will await further actions from the Interim Management Committee of the NPFL.

There was nothing to separate 10-man Remo Stars and Gombe United on Monday as both teams stepped out again to play the second half of  match-day 12 game.

The game eventually ended goalless leaving Remo Stars third in Group A with 21 points while Gombe United remained seventh with 14 points.
