Kunle Soname owned Remo Stars FC, is the newly promoted club to the Nigeria Professional Football League. This, the Bet9ja boss celebrated with the team on Wednesday, 15th of September, at the dining hall of the Remo Stars Football Academy, Ikenne, Ogun State.
The club sealed the final promotion ticket to the topflight on Sunday following a dramatic 2-2 draw with Bendel Insurance in their last Group B game of the 2021 Nigeria National League Super 8 playoffs.
Soname, while applauding his players, noted that Remo Stars is far from being just a football club, “It is an academy where we groom and nurture talents, when they are about 18 or 19 years, we showcase them to the world to exhibit what we have taught them, that is what we stand for”, he said.
He further expressed his satisfaction with the performance of the team, noted that the team has successfully qualified for the Nigeria Professional Football League for the 3rd time.
The ex Ikosi-Isheri council boss, urged the players to remain steadfast, be good ambassadors of the academy, train hard and play by the rules. “Success will come, there’s a journey before the win, it should never be win at all cost, you must try to win, but you must win fairly, and that is the joy of winning”, he said.
Soname extoled the former head coach, Daniel Ogunmodede, who joined Remo Stars as an assistant coach, and in his 6years, he has developed loads of players which led to him being assigned the entire youth system, during which, he has overseen the transfer of at least ten youth players from Remo Stars to CD Feirense in Portugal. He thanked and prayed for Ogunmodede and his family.
Ogunmodede, popularly hailed as Ijaball, by his players, when asked what his reaction to his experience at Remo Stars, “My calling is football evangelism, I’m an evangelist of football education, I have a passion for it, I follow my dream and it’s working magic. Seeing the talent, nurturing them, giving them the mentality that they can, it’s just a switch between development and performance and that’s where the problem lies and I’m able to have the key to that.” He disclosed.
“It is a dream come true, sincerely, I thank the management of the club, most especially, our president and father, Hon. Kunle Soname for the confidence he has in my philosophy, I do not take it for granted,” Dan told Sports247.
“When the offer came, I didn’t think about it twice before accepting it, I saw it as an opportunity to show the whole world that a young boy from Africa can make a difference in coaching. You can now say, Ijaball to the world,” he concluded.
