Ogunlewe Feeds 5,000 Residents, Launches Kosofe Free Food Bank

The Executive Chairman of Kosofe Local Government, Barrister Moyosore Adedoyin Ogunlewe, on Tuesday 8th of August, 2023, launched the Kosofe Free Food Bank initiative. This programme was launched to cushion the negative impact of removal of fuel subsidy on the residents of Kosofe Local Government.

The free food packs consisting of rice, beans, and garri, the Chairman noted would be distributed weekly to residents and would be absolutely free and not subsidized, a break from the norm amongst other chairmen.

Over 5,000 residents, including aged men, women and youth who had visited the secretariat as early as 8am benefited from the distribution of the free food packs. 

In a brief chat with journalists, the council Chairman stressed the importance of giving succour to the most vulnerable members of the society, especially, during these challenging times, adding that the initiative is part of his welfare programme for the residents of the local government area.

The first phase of the initiative brought smiles to the faces of 5,000 beneficiaries, Barrister Ogunlewe further expressed his commitment to the welfare and well-being of the people of Kosofe Local Government, assuring them that the initiative would be a monthly routine, for as long as possible.

“It is an initiative I have always wanted to do, even before the removal of the fuel subsidy. This means that people at the ward level will benefit from whatever we are doing in the council. And this is also the launch of the Kosofe food bank Initiative.

This is going to be happening every month and we will be moving from house to house to give them food”: Barrister Ogunlewe clearly noted.

Thousands of beneficiaries expressed their excitement, showered prayers and praises on the executive Chairman, a beneficiary we caught on tape, by the name, Mrs Ayinke Akintunde, expressed her joy, after receiving her food pack, noted that the Chairman doesn’t know the effect of providing food for the masses. In her words, “ the Chairman does not know how far this will go to help my family, prices of food have cut into the ceilings and it’s looking like food is not meant for the common man anymore. May the Almighty God continue to bless the Chairman and ease all of his affairs”, she concluded.
