Former Sole Administrator of Kosofe Local Government, Honourable Jumoke Animawun has congratulated girls in Kosofe local on the occasion of the  International Day of the Girl Child.

The current Assitant to the Secretary of the APC in Lagos State further encouraged the girl child to be steadfast and confident enough to face the challenges ahead, in a world that gives the male child an edge over his feminine counterpart.

The International Day of the Girl Child is observed on October 11 every year. International Day of the Girl Child was first observed in October 11, 2012 by the United Nations. This year commemorates the 10th anniversary of the International Day of the Girl.

The day focuses attention on the need to address the challenges confronting the girl child and to promote girls’ empowerment and the fulfilment of their rights.

The theme of International Day of the Girl Child this year is: “Our time is now—our rights, our future.”

Despite great strides in gender equality over the past decades, deep-seated prejudices and discrimination still exists and it holds us all back. Now more than ever, people are pushing for an equal future.

We believe in this future.
One where women can realize their full potentials, where they can receive the same recognition as men. We want to see a world where women feel safe. Where they can access education and opportunities to strengthen their livelihoods. We want to see women, some of the main victims of conflict, included in the peace process.

Around the world, women are breaking glass ceilings, challenging stereotypes and going where no woman has ever gone before. I know these women.

Achieving gender equality and women’s empowerment goals is our priority, and only by ensuring the rights of women and girls across all the goals will we get to justice and inclusion, economies that work for all, and sustaining our shared environment now and for future generations.

Happy International Day of the Girl-Child.
