In response to persistent electricity challenges, residents of Oworonshoki convened a crucial meeting, attended by representatives from various streets and the Community Development Association (CDA). The primary focus was to devise effective solutions to the ongoing power issues affecting the community.

 

Key Participants: The meeting was attended by Oworonshoki residents, CDA representatives, and officials from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources. Engineer Hafeez Momoh, representing the Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, addressed the gathering.

Meeting Highlights: Despite initial resistance from frustrated residents, Engineer Momoh attempted to clarify the situation. Post-meeting, a group of residents accompanied the Ministry of Energy team to inspect the Oworonshoki Sub-station, exploring potential connections to address the community’s power needs.

 

Meeting Resolutions: The Oworonshoki community has collectively decided on several resolutions to address their electricity concerns:

  1. Demand for Sub-station Connection:
    • Oworonshoki residents insist on being connected to the Sub-station, pointing out neighboring communities already benefitting from it.
  2. Scheduled Rally/Protest:
    • A rally/protest is scheduled for Monday, with youth representatives mobilizing participants across 150 streets in Oworonshoki. The gathering point is Papa field at 7 am, with detailed action plans communicated via text messages.
  3. Media Engagement:
    • Engaging at least 8 mainstream media outlets is planned to ensure comprehensive coverage of the rally, amplifying the community’s advocacy for improved electricity services.
  4. Improved Electricity Hours:
    • Residents demand an enhancement in electricity supply, setting a target of an average of 20 hours daily from Ikeja Electric.
  5. Financial Contributions:
    • Residents are urged to contribute funds collectively for media mobilization during the Monday Rally/Protest, emphasizing the strength of unity in advocating for their cause.

The Oworonshoki community stands united in its pursuit of improved electricity services, hoping that the scheduled activities will bring attention to their plight and lead to positive outcomes.
