…Gov Sanwo-Olu Assures of Accelerated Infrastructure Development

Commercial activities were almost brought to a standstill on Saturday in Kosofe local government area of Lagos State as preeminent Nigerians and thousands of guests stormed Oworonshoki Kingdom to celebrate the coronation of the new monarch of the community His Royal Majesty Oba Babatunde Saliu.

Oba Babatunde Saliu celebrated his ascension to the throne of his forebears at the sand field area of the community amidst pomp and pageantry three months after his installation and five days after emerging from the mandatory 90 days in seclusion.

And thousands of guests and dignitaries from far and near thronged the venue of the coronation ceremony to rejoice with the new Oloworo of Oworonshoki Kingdom.

Prominent among them were the Oni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi (Ojaja II), Ojora of Ijoraland, Oba Fatai Aromire, Osolo of isolo, Oba Kabir Agbabiaka, Elegushi of ikateland, Oba Ademola Elegushi, Olofin Adimula of isheri Olofin, Oba Sulaimon Bamgbade and Oniru of Iru, Oba Gbolahan Lawal among others.

Others are the Executive Chairman of Kosofe Local Government Barrister Moyosore Ogunlewe and members of Lagos State Association of Council Vice Chairmen (LASACVC)

The father of the day was a member of the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC) Omoba Olumuyiwa Sosanya.

Addressing in Yoruba, the Oni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi; (Ọjájá II) in his opening remark congratulated the community for the new Oba and expressed delight at Oba Babatunde Saliu ascending to the throne of his forebears.

The Oni of Ife noted that he had had about 20 years of working relationship with the Kingdom of Oworonshoki and was happy that the person that facilitated the relationship is now the king.

He, therefore, urged the sons and daughters of the community to rally around the new monarch for peace, and prosperity and accelerated development of the community.

The Governor of Lagos State Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu was represented at the event by Mr Bolaji Robert, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.

Governor Sanwo-Olu assured residents of Oworonshoki community of more dividends of democracy in terms of human capacity development and Infrastructural Development with the installation of Oba Babatunde Saliu.

Governor Sanwo-Olu further made it known that the installation of the monarch was in line with the registered declaration regulating the selection of Oba in Lagos state.

“I want to congratulate you once again Oba Saliu and the entire sons and daughters of Oworonshoki land.

“I assure you that this administration will continue to accord this community like all others the attention you deserve in terms of infrastructure, economic empowerment, human capital development and security,” he said.

He also commended the kingmakers, elders of Oworonshoki as well as the ruling houses for the peace and mutual understanding that characterised the process that led to the installation of the king.

He, however, advised residents of the community to rally round their new leader in achieving the peace, prosperity and progress that Oworo community deserved.

Oba Babatunde Saliu in his Keynote address thanked the dignitaries for attending his coronation ceremony and particularly thanked Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the prominent role he played in his success story.

Oba Saliu also thanked the Governor of Lagos State for starting the rehabilitation of four roads in the community.

“We thank the state government for starting this great work in our area and we are still appealing for more infrastructural projects to ensure more developments in the community

“Oworonshoki is home to over one million people but has been at the receiving end of an infrastructural deficit.

“Within a few months of my ascension, the Lagos state government has begun the rehabilitation of four roads in Oworonshoki.

“I commend the state government for this project I, however, want to use this medium to seek intervention in the rehabilitation of other key roads,” the Oloworo said.

He assured residents of rapid infrastructure development to make the community livable

The ceremony was anchored by Gbenga Adeyinka while a popular Fuji musician, Wasiu Ayinde Marshall (KWAM 1) entertained the guests.
