In a poignant departure from conventional birthday celebrations, Senator Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru, FCA, representing Lagos East Senatorial District, marked his 60th birthday today by extending a hand of love and empathy to his constituents who are facing economic adversity.

Acknowledging the prevailing hardships, Senator Abiru opted to forgo personal festivities, instead channeling his energies towards addressing the pressing needs of vulnerable households in Lagos East. Through a significant gesture of goodwill, he spearheaded the distribution of over 10,000 food packs across the 98 wards spanning the 16 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) and Local Government Areas in his district.

Expressing gratitude for the blessings bestowed upon him and his family, Senator Abiru reserved special appreciation for his steadfast support system, notably his wife, Fesyisola, and children. Furthermore, he extended heartfelt thanks to the residents of Lagos East for entrusting him with the responsibility of representation and to the leaders of his party, particularly President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for their mentorship and guidance.

In a candid acknowledgment of the challenges faced by his constituents, Senator Abiru underscored the imperative of responsive governance in times of need. He emphasized, “It would be remiss of me to revel in personal merriment while many within our community struggle to meet their basic needs, particularly in obtaining food. Therefore, I have chosen to forego any celebratory extravagance, opting instead to allocate resources towards providing essential sustenance to those in need.”

Building upon his ongoing commitment to quarterly support initiatives for vulnerable demographics, Senator Abiru ensured the inclusion of widows, persons living with disabilities, unemployed youths, women, and the elderly in the distribution efforts. Additionally, individuals identified through online nominations were also considered for assistance, ensuring a broad reach across the community.

Looking towards the future with optimism, Senator Abiru commended the efforts of both the Federal Government and the Lagos State Government in implementing measures to alleviate economic strain. He assured constituents of his unwavering dedication to fulfilling his mandate, emphasizing legislative action, empowerment initiatives, and community endowments as pillars of his service.

Senator Tokunbo Abiru’s decision to prioritize humanitarian aid over personal celebration resonates as a testament to his commitment to servant leadership and compassionate governance. As he celebrates six decades of life, his actions serve as a beacon of hope and solidarity, inspiring others to join him in the pursuit of a more equitable and compassionate society.

It is also  imperative to state that this is not the first direct humanitarian assistance for the needy that Senator Abiru has done. It will be recalled that the Lagos East Senator disbursed more than N150 million Naira in about 24 months to over 2,500 vulnerable constituents under his COVID-19 Financial Relief Scheme.
