Mayor Dele Oshinowo (3rd Right) among other Chairmen  being sworn in at Blue roof, LTV 8, Ikeja on Tuesday July 25th

Over time, after government elections in Nigeria, the winners are sworn in a month after. Surprisingly, this was not the case after the Local Government elections that held on the 22nd of July, 2017 across Lagos state.
The Electorate was shocked to hear that the swearing in ceremony of the various Chairmen and their Councillors would hold on the 25th of July, 2017. Just two days after the elections.
Questions ruled the air as people wondered at the sudden switch in procedure.
In some quarters, the sudden decision by the State government to speed up the swearing in ceremony of the elected officials stank of misdeed and a conspiracy to get the winners into office and running before the Electorate could blink its eye.
Why the rush to get these officials into office? Was proper accounting done by the Sole Administrators before handing over office? How prepared are the newly elected officials to run the Councils?
With unresolved disputes and rancour hovering in the air, most especially in the Ikosi-Isheri LGA where the Accord party tested and evidently bested the popularity of the All Progressives Party in the person of Honourable Owolabi Taiwo aka Hartingal, one wonders why the state did not allow for a few weeks or a month to resolve these burning issues conclusively before swearing in the so-called new officials. All of these, in the midst of passionate protests staged by supporters of the Accord party with the women folk protesting bare-chested.
These bits and pieces point at the State government and the ruling party having something to hide.
One day, hopefully…we will know.
