In a proactive move aimed at combating poverty and empowering the most vulnerable segments of society, the Agboyi-Ketu Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has initiated a groundbreaking program to support 450 women and traders in the community.

Under the leadership of Mayor Dele Oshinowo administration, the Council Chairman noted that the program is designed to uplift women and traders, aligning with national and local agenda such as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the policies of the President and Governor.

Speaking to journalists at the event, Mayor Dele Oshinowo  underscored the importance of holistic support, emphasizing that uplifting the community goes beyond infrastructure projects. “We must talk about how they are going to feed themselves and generate income for their families,” Mayor Dele Oshinowo stated, highlighting the need for comprehensive assistance.

The program, which targets women, widows, and petty traders, is not a one-time effort but will be continuously implemented to reach all segments of the community. Through various channels including local religious and voluntary organizations, beneficiaries are selected to ensure widespread impact.

However, with great empowerment comes responsibility. The council Chairman cautioned against frivolous spending, urging beneficiaries to utilize the funds wisely for business growth rather than extravagant social functions.

In response to the economic challenges faced by many, Mayor Dele Oshinowo expressed optimism about the federal government’s policies aimed at improving the economy. Additionally, local interventions such as the distribution of funds to LGAs/LCDAs are expected to uplift households and stimulate economic activity.

Among the beneficiaries is Balikis Opeyemi, a petty trader in Agboyi-Ketu LCDA, who expressed heartfelt gratitude for the support. “This money will help increase my business and alleviate our struggles,” she remarked, highlighting the significance of the program for her livelihood and family.

As the program continues to unfold, it promises to be a beacon of hope for many struggling households in Agboyi-Ketu LCDA, offering tangible assistance and fostering economic resilience within the community.
